Look no further than your trusty old garage if you’re aching for a new painting project. Your garage does a lot of work for your home, providing secure storage for vehicles and other items throughout the year, and it also plays a massive role in your curb appeal.
Curb appeal refers to how inviting, pretty, or desirable a home looks to visitors and buyers when they approach. If your garage is ugly, it brings that curb appeal down. But it’s nothing a new coat of paint can’t fix.
While you’re at it, you could even consider some painting ideas for the inside. Read on for some great interior and exterior paint ideas for your garage.
Indoor Ideas
Let’s start with the most off-the-wall idea: paint the floor. Painting the ground is a great way to make the floor safer, easier to clean, and better looking. Most garages have concrete slab flooring, and there are several styles of epoxy paint made specifically for it, and it doesn’t typically require any unusual painting tools.
Next, paint the walls. If you have a lot of windows that let in natural light, take advantage of that and choose a color that compliments all that light. Generally, avoid heavy, dark colors since they will make your garage feel smaller, and opt for a semi-gloss or gloss paint texture to make it easier to clean.
Outdoor Ideas
Exterior painting is also a great way to spruce up your garage. Start with the door, which at best probably needs some TLC. If it is in good working order, you can get by with a makeover rather than a replacement. Choose a garage door color that complements that shade of the rest of your house.
Some people opt to go with traditional whites, while others make the door pop against the house color (remember that color pop means to stand out, not to clash). Don’t forget that if your garage door is wood, you could also stain it instead of painting it.
You could even paint the exterior depending on whether your garage is attached or detached. Remember that you don’t want it to clash with the rest of your house.
