If you’ve been in your current home for a while, it may be starting to feel drab, dull, or rundown. If it otherwise still meets your needs – if it has enough storage, for instance, or nothing is broken or falling apart – you don’t need to take on the time, stress, and expense of a big remodel. If the physical structure of the place still works, you can breathe new life into it with a new paint job. Wanting the room to look fresh and new is a great reason to paint, but it’s not the only one. Read on for several signs that it is time to repaint your home’s interior.
Colors Are Faded
If the rooms of your home get a lot of natural light, the colors will fade over time. This may only become an issue after some time if you move furniture or art and reveal the older, bolder color below. Some colors work better than others in rooms with lots of natural light, but eventually, any color will fade (except your ashen tones). If the faded tones bother you, or you have bold blocks of paint where you’ve removed hanging art or large furniture, it is time to repaint the whole room.
Walls Are Damaged
Damaged walls also need a coat of paint – after the damage is repaired, of course. You can often cover minor nicks and scratches with primer and your new paint (usually, these are small enough that you could also do maintenance touch-ups). Before you prime and color, you may fill and sand them for deeper gouges.
Everything Is Outdated
While some colors and styles are timeless (and honestly won’t ever be out-of-style), not everything is. If some of the rooms in your home are still covered with wallpaper that was in style when your adult kids were in diapers, it is probably time to remove and paint those walls something fresh and new. Likewise, a new paint coating is a solution if you jumped on a trendy color a few years ago and have several accent walls that now “pop with color” way more than you want them to.
It’s Just Not You
Finally, if there is anything about the room that makes it feel like it isn’t you, a new coat of paint can help! It is incredible what you can achieve with freshly painted walls and ceilings.
